<Guest>Also drops from the Maddened Hives surrounding Grimbark. With a decently geared 50 you can safely fight your way to the boss and when you get there, focus all fire on the hives when they spawn and loot them the moment you drop them. You can come out of the battle with 3 black heartwoods, more if you decide to keep the boss alive longer. I'd imagine this trick is easiest with a minstrel. It is indeed stupid for a crit item like this to drop from so few mobs.

Slane <Guest>I got a Black Heartwood off of Gloomleaf and the other non-named trees in the surrounding area. It does drop, but it's a real pain.

Cendalgar <Guest>I too have retrieved a Black Heartwood from Gloomleaf and I "only" had to kill him like 20 times for it :-P
