  • BackgroundThe Ranger Erandir is at Esteldin in the North Downs. Erandir has asked you to fashion deft gauntlets, which he will examine to determine whether you are sufficiently skilled at tailoring to proceed with the craft.
    DescriptionSPOILER:
    1. Speak to Erandir.
    2. Kill a hoar-mantle to the SW of Esteldin for River-maidens thread.
    3. Travel to Trestlebridge (or anywhere with a workbench - there isn't one in Esteldin) Make the following using medium hides: a. 2 leather braces b. 2 leather guards c. 2 tough leather pads
    4. Right click the deft gloves recipe in your inventory (you got it when you talked to Erandir)
    5. Craft the Deft gloves at the workbench.
    6. Return to Erandir.

    Text From Letter:

For you to produce a pair of deft gauntlets that will satisfy my examination, you will need to journey into the wild in search of danger. You did not think a tailor worked only within the comfort of town walls, did you? These notes will help you fashion the gauntlets, but ultimately it will come down to your own dedication and experience.

    TOUGH LEATHER PADS

You should have little difficulty fashioning these sturdy pads. The challenge here lies in choosing cuts of leather that will provide adequate protection without chafing the hands of the wearer. If you know a novice forester of sufficient skill, you can bring him medium hides, and he can treat the leather for your use.

    LEATHER GUARDS

Any imperfection in the leather guards will weaken the integrity of the gauntlets, making them all but useless for the purpose they are intended. If you are careless with fashioning the guards, you might as well abandon tailoring to take up cooking instead -- the leather you so waste would be better served in a pot of soup. The novice forester on whose good graces you depended for the boiled medium leather can once again treat the leather these guards require.

    LEATHER BRACES

The stitching on the braces must be strong, or the gauntlets will come apart in -- or upon -- your hands. During a pitched battle, this is the last thing you want to happen. Pay the novice forester whatever coin he requires -- the braces, too, need boiled medium leather of the highest quality.

    RIVER-MAIDEN'S THREAD
Ordinary thread is not sufficiently strong enough to keep the gauntlets intact through many battles. Only thread gifted by a river-maiden possesses such strength and flexibility, and that is not given lightly. You cannot hope to receive such a gift.

I was fortunate enough to receive just such a token once, in lands far away beneath the moon, though the maiden has doubtless abandoned the place in which I found her. Lost, too, is the thread she gave to me, for as I strode upon the plains of the Kingsfell not long ago, heedless of all but the party of Orcs I hunted, I trod too near to a mighty aurochs and was almost trampled myself. Escaping, I discovered the thread was missing. It perhaps is still tangled in the fur of that beast, Trampletusk by name, or in the fur of his fellows. Look for Trampletusk or another aurochs on the plains of Kingsfell; if you can retrieve the thread, it is yours to use in fashioning the gauntlets.

Alissa <Guest>Any threatening hoar-mantle will drop the River-maiden's Thread

    Trampletusk <2007-09-15 20:55:50>
Joe <Guest>The area where the Trampletusk is, is surrounded by a bunch of bad dudes. The easiest way to get to the spot where the trampletusks is, is to take the North-South road in Kingsfell, south, until you get to the "G" in Kingsfell. Then go west into the field. This will let you avoid the orcs and spiders. When I was first doing this mission, i was confused by all the lvl 26 antiochs in the area. Dont bother with these. They wont attack you if you dont attack them. Just wait around the "K" for Trampletusk to appear. Killing him is the easiest part of the mission.

Bilbad <Guest>There are superior workbenchs in the back of Esteldin in the craft/vault hall. Just head in to the east

Fortindoc <Guest>Trampletusk is still a level 20 signature and is no problem, the rest around him are higher levels but most of them do not attack, so just watch out for spiders mainly
