  • Collect Westernesse-steel Ingot (0/2)
  • Collect Westernesse-scale (0/2)
  • Collect Ancient Crown
  • Fashion a Steadfast Helm and show it to Birrungur Blacksteel
  • BackgroundBirringur Blacksteel is at Thorenhad, the camp of the sons of Elrond, in the Trollshaws. Birringur Blacksteel is waiting for you to fashion a Steadfast Helm so he can judge its quality.
DescriptionTIP: This quest starts from any smith trainer.

TIP: The Ancient Crown is a random drop from Wights in the Trollshaws.

    The Note Reads:

I think you've got it in you to be a master of my trade, but you need to show me your skill before I'll be sure. That's just good dwarf-sense! These notes should tell you everything you need to know about fashioning the Steadfast Helm, but the actual craftsmanship of the piece begins and ends with you. Do not let me down! It took me a while to write these notes, and I would hate to think the time was wasted.

    WESTERNESSE-STEEL INGOTS

The practice is nearly forgotten now, but an artisan prospector might still have the skill to refine Westernesse-steel from coal and ingots of dwarf-iron. The helm will need two such ingots of Westernesse-steel, but if you are to make the needed scales for the side of the helm, ask the prospector to refine three more.

    WESTERNESSE-SCALES

You will need to heat these three scales and pound them flat, then combine them with an additional dwarf-steel ingot. Repeat this process for the second Westernesse-scale you need.

    ANCIENT CROWN

North of the road through the wilderness of the Trollshaws, evil wights stalk the ruins of old Rhudaur. The place is called Nan Tornaeth. One of the evil creatures surely still bears the crown of its host body, and that will form the foundation of the Steadfast Helm. In this way, we take something evil and refashion it for good. It is the metalsmith's way.

Obtain these components and then fashion a steadfast helm for me to judge, and I will declare you a master metalsmith if it passes my inspection!

<Guest>yup, any of the quests to finish a teir can be done by a lvl 1, if they have friends.

    30th level? <2008-03-07 21:14:57>
PHGamer <Guest>I dont think this is a level 30 quest. The mobs are 37th level. Even a party of 30's cant beat them.

<Guest>The quest is level 40, like all the other same tier crafting quests. Easy to see the quest level in your quest log.

Shadowmaul <Guest>I completed this at level 12 with help from a lvl 50 Hunter and lvl 35 champ.

mini <Guest>I completed it as a lvl 26 minstrell, hiding in the bushes until a team came by, attacked it first so they chopped it for me, and tadaaa there was the crown on the first wight that showed up:p
